3rd grade students will be very busy this year.
Social Studies- Units of study in Social Studies include: transportation/immigration, elected officials, map skills, and Hastings history
Science- Units of study in Science include: Characteristics of living things plants and animals interact.
Math- In Math we will cover many areas that include: addition and subtraction concept review from 2nd grade including regrouping, multiplication, number sense, place value, geometry, and algebraic concepts.
Writing- The writing curriculum is centered around the 6 traits model. Points of emphasis include expository and personal narrative writing.
Reading- Many reading skills/strategies are covered including: comprehension, story elements, summarizing, inference, questioning, connections, visualizing, fix-it strategies, and determining importance.

Announcements Transportation Field TripToday was our first field trip to Stuhr Museum in Grand Island. We listened to a presentation on early transportation. We learned about different types of wagons and what they were used for, early pioneer life, and different methods of communication used by railroad workers. The highlight was riding on a hand car and playing a game of hoops and sticks. Be sure to ask your student about their field trip.
A.R. Books/FoldersA.R. books and folders need to be returned every Monday. Students will check out books on Tuesday afternoon. They need to take their A.R. tests before their library check out time. It's very important to return books on Monday or the Friday before to ensure the students have enough time to test. The students are reading and taking tests to meet a goal. Students who meet that goal will have a popcorn party!
